Therapeutic Groups

A t New Prairie Counseling Center, healing and growth don’t have to happen alone. Our therapeutic groups offer a space for connection, creativity, and shared experience — where self-discovery unfolds through both conversation and hands-on engagement.

Each group is grounded in evidence-based therapeutic principles and facilitated by licensed clinicians who create a supportive, collaborative environment. Whether through art, games, or movement, our groups invite participants to explore new ways of understanding themselves and others.

Our current offerings include:

Mending Group

In this traditional art therapy group, we bring our worn clothing, thread, and fabric as well as our stories and presence. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to tend to what’s frayed, to make something whole again, and to allow imperfection to become part of the beauty. We invite you to join our mending group as we blend the practice of stitching and patching with the healing power of community.

Therapeutic Role-Playing Games

Therapy interventions for teens and kids tend to focus too narrowly on discrete social/emotional skills in an overly clinical environment unrelated to their day-to-day social life. In this group, we use table-top role playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons, to create a more natural, enjoyable environment where children and adolescents can develop what they need to emotionally flourish with social confidence.

Family Solutions

Families grow stronger when they have space to learn, reflect, and connect — not just with each other, but with the ideas and tools that support them.

Family Solutions offers a rotating series of educational seminars for parents and caregivers, blending practical strategies with emotional insight.

Each session explores a topic relevant to family life — from effective parenting strategies, to navigating challenges like divorce, substance use, or rebuilding trust after infidelity. Others focus on communication, motivation, and emotional intelligence — helping parents guide their children toward resilience and success both at home and at school.
